Advocating for our homeless and low-income neighbors

Cementing a Partnership of Compassion with the CGM Buy-a Brick Campaign

Every dollar contributed helps our mission to compassionately feed, clothe and care for our community’s low-income and homeless residents of all ages. Haverhill is a city of 64,000 with a 26% poverty rate. The Common Ground Café provides a haven of tranquility for Haverhill’s inner-city “Acre” neighborhood and serves breakfast every Saturday, Sunday, and Holiday, serving 4,384 individuals 20,151 meals yearly average, 10,306 lunches, 7,211 breakfasts, and 2,634 dinners. More could be served in the new café, which will expand seating from the current 32 to 56. Meanwhile, our food pantry offers a measure of security to low-income and homeless individuals. In 2018, 378,226 pounds (23,988 bags) of food was given to 3,122 households.

Common Ground is supported by volunteers, thrift store revenue, and generous contributions through the gracious giving of a few individuals, businesses, organizations, and grantors. We expect our new location will improve our revenue thanks to a more convenient location for the thrift store, ample parking, and safe and easy access.

The new Common Ground building houses the Food Pantry, the Thrift Store,  Clothing Outreach, The Café, Elderly Brown Bag Program, English as a second language (ESL) classes, as well as mentoring and recovery services. With the new kitchen, we also provide culinary training that could help assist people to learn cooking skills.

We would like to present businesses, organizations, and individuals the opportunity to:  “Buy a Brick” for $250 (Premium-located bricks in the entryway are $500 each). Your name, logo, and website will be placed on a brick on the outside of the building, sharing with everyone that you are part of the mission to support those in need in the Greater Haverhill area. A virtual brick will also be displayed on our website in recognition of your generosity.
